For Immediate Release
Alpharetta, GA (April 16, 2015) – Visioneering Technologies, Inc. (VTI), based in Alpharetta, Georgia, has announced the launch of NaturalVue™ Multifocal 1 Day daily disposable contact lens. The innovative contact lens solves the needs of those with presbyopia — the loss of ability to see up close that occurs with age. Presbyopia affects 90 percent of people over the age of 40, some 142 million people in the United States alone.1
“VTI is in the business of helping patients,” said CEO Stephen Snowdy, PhD. “The company, its investors and employees are thrilled to make available to patients a solution that overcomes many of the limitations of current products for presbyopia.”
“NaturalVue™ Multifocal 1 Day daily disposable contact lenses with Neurofocus Optics™ technology represent smarter thinking in presbyopia solutions,” according to Sally Dillehay, O.D., VTI’s Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Clinical and Regulatory Affairs. “There’s a new power to fight presbyopia — ‘brain power.’ The lens works with the brain to give the patient spectacle-level stereoacuity and vision at near, intermediate and at a distance. And because this remarkable new contact lens is a daily disposable, it’s fresh, clean and comfortable every day.”3
Excellent Vision Across Entire Range3
In a 2013 study, only 15 percent of patients in current multifocal contacts experienced vision that was uncompromised in at least one area (near, intermediate, and distance vision).4
In contrast, patients participating in NaturalVue™ clinical trials were able to complete over 93 percent of normal visual tasks without using supplemental reading glasses or magnifiers.3 This is a significant improvement for patients who don’t want to search for reading glasses when reading or using a cell phone.
“We found that the lens rivaled spectacle vision at intermediate, which is unheard of in a multifocal contact lens,” stated Jeffrey Sonsino, O.D., of Optique Eye Care in Nashville, Tennessee, and a NaturalVue™ clinical investigator, “I had subjects whose range of intermediate vision went from 40 centimeters all the way out to 115 centimeters. That is not expected with other multifocals.”
“VTI completely changed the way a multifocal lens works,” reported Sam Salituro, O.D. of Visioncare Specialists in Des Plaines, Illinois, another NaturalVue™ clinical trial site. “NaturalVue™ Multifocal 1 Day lenses are not a ‘me-too-lens.’ These lenses provide excellent visual acuity at distance, intermediate and near.”
Fit Like Single-vision Spherical Lens, with benefits for both patient and practitioner
Many practitioners also report that multifocal contact lenses are complicated to fit and frustrating for both the fitter and the patient.4 NaturalVue™ lenses are designed to be easy to fit, similar to a single-vision spherical lens. With one base curve, one diameter and one universal ADD — which accommodates up to 3.00D of equivalent near power — NaturalVue™ multifocal lenses have an 89% fitting success rate, reduced office visits, and require less time to fit.3
“With the NaturalVue™ multifocal lens, fitting is absolutely simple,” said Dr. Sonsino. “You pick the distance prescription and put it on. Of the almost 30 subjects I ran, I had zero dropouts because of fit. When you use optics or technology that is completely new — that nobody has tried before — there are incremental steps and then there are big leaps. I think the NaturalVue™ Multifocal 1 Day daily disposable lens is a big leap. This lens is a different animal altogether. It’s not like a center distance lens. It’s not like a center near lens. It’s a whole new technology on the market.”
NaturalVue™ Multifocal 1 Day daily disposable contact lenses have been launched in a select group of practices and will expand nationwide later in 2015.
