Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Consumer
What is presbyopia?
Presbyopia is a natural occurrence where the eye begins to lose its ability to focus up close. Almost everyone over the age of 40, experiences at least some signs of presbyopia such as eye strain when reading, needing to move reading material further away, or using more light when reading.
What does daily disposable mean?
Daily disposable lenses are meant to be worn once and thrown away daily.
What is the appropriate wearing schedule for me?
Your eye care professional will prescribe your wearing schedule based on the health of your eyes, your lifestyle, your overall health, your preferences, and the type of lenses prescribed for you.
Can I order lenses directly from Visioneering Technologies, Inc. or get a trial pair?
Because contact lenses are medical devices and are regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, federal regulations prohibit Visioneering Technologies, Inc. from selling or dispensing lenses to anyone other than a licensed eye care professional. We are unable to process any orders for consumers. To obtain a prescription, you will need to see your eye care practitioner.
How old do I have to be to wear contact lenses?
Typically, the age that most people start wearing contact lenses is around age 8 or 9, but this is highly dependent upon the child: prescription and vision needs, motivation for wearing (sports-related, etc.), maturity and responsibility to care for their eyes and contacts and overall attitude. Your eye care practitioner can help assess when contacts are appropriate for each child.
Are contact lenses comfortable to wear?
Absolutely. Significant advancements have been made in the technology of contact lenses so that they not only provide excellent vision, but are comfortable to wear. NaturalVue brand contact lenses are daily disposable, which helps them to start comfortable and stay comfortable all day, until you are ready to throw them away.
Is it difficult to take care of contact lenses?
Again, advances in technology make contacts convenient and easy to use. NaturalVue contact lenses are daily disposable, which means there’s no need for lens solutions. With NaturalVue, you put in a fresh pair every day and throw them away each night.
Are contact lenses more expensive than glasses?
Contacts are very affordable. And with vision insurance, out-of-pocket costs may be even less. Plus, replacing a lost contact lens is less expensive and easier than replacing lost or damaged glasses.
Why do I need a prescription for contact lenses?
A contact lens is a medical device, which is regulated by the FDA; therefore a prescription is required by Federal law. Only an eye care professional can properly evaluate your need for vision correction as well as determine which type of contact lens is best for you. Plus, changes that can occur to your vision and eye health over time can only be detected with specialized equipment and procedures.
Is my contact lens prescription different than my eyeglass prescription?
Yes. A prescription for contact lenses requires different information than a prescription for eyeglasses.
How do I get a contact lens prescription?
Start by scheduling an appointment with an eye care professional. Be sure to let the office know you that you are interested in being fit with contact lenses.
